Ribauè is a district in northern Mozambique .

geography

Ribauè is located in the west of the province of Nampula . In the north Ribauè borders on the Lalaua district , in the south on Murrupula and, on the other side of the Rio Ligonha , on the Alto Molocué district belonging to the province of Zambézia . To the west is the Malema district and to the east the Mecubúri district .

The district is named after its main town Ribauè and has an area of ​​4894 km².

Ribauè is characterized by plains and plateaus of the Chire-Namuli mountain range, which reach a height of 200  m to 500  m . You are repeatedly interrupted by island mountains . The vegetation consists of partly dense, tropical forests. Several rivers flow through the district. The Lalaua rises in the higher areas of Iapala and flows into the Lùrio in the Mecubúri district. The Mepuipui, which rises in the district and whose tributaries Musse and Mecuasse also have their sources in the district, flows into the Lalaua. The same applies to the Monapo, the tributary of the Mecuasse.

The average annual temperature is 20 ° C, but rises above 26 ° C between May and December. The mountain regions of the district are cooler. In the rainy season from December to May the annual rainfall of 1500 mm falls. The average humidity is 65%.

The population of Ribauès was 128,209 in the 1997 census and was estimated at 153,794 in 2005. This corresponds to a population density of 31.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. 48% of the population is less than 15 years old% are women.
