Ricardo Castillo (composer)

Ricardo Castillo (born October 1, 1894 in Quetzaltenango , † May 25, 1966 in Guatemala City ) was a Guatemalan composer.

Castillo lived in Paris from 1906 to 1922 , where he had violin lessons with Augustin Lefort and studied harmony and composition with Paul Vidal . In 1918 he married the Cortot -Schülerin Georgette Contoux . After his return to Guatemala, he taught harmony and composition at the Conservatorio Nacional . His students included u. a. Jorge Álvaro Sarmientos , Joaquín Orellana , Enrique Anleu Díaz and José Arévalo Guerra . His brother Jesús Castillo was also known as a composer.
