Ricardo Ffrench-Davis (born June 27, 1936 ) is a Chilean economist . He is a professor at the Universidad Católica de Chile and was, among other things, Principal Regional Adviser of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean from 1992 to 2004 .

Ricardo Ffrench-Davis was born on June 27, 1936. In the 1950s he belonged to a group of Chileans who received a scholarship from the University of Chicago, so formally he belongs to the Chicago Boys . In the publications The monetarist experiment in Chile: a critical survey (1982) and Economic development and equity in Chile: legacies and challenges in the return to democracy (1990), however, he criticized the neo-liberal economic policy, which under Pinochet was based on the guidelines of the Chicago Boys was introduced.

Ffrench-Davis earned his Magister in 1961 and a Ph.D. in 1971. in Economics from the University of Chicago . He also acquired the Ingeniero Comercial at the Universidad Católica de Chile . There he still teaches economics and international studies as a professor . From 1964 to 1970 he was Deputy Manager of the Chilean Central Bank (Banco Central de Chile). From 1976–1990 he co-founded the think tank Corporación de Estudios para Latinoamérica (CIEPLAN). 1990–1992 he was director of research at the Banco Central de Chile. From 1992 to 2004 he was Principal Regional Adviser of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean .

In 2005 he received the Chilean State Prize for Humanities and Social Sciences (Premio Nacional de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales de Chile).
