Riccardo Assereto ( 1937 - September 15, 1976 ) was an Italian paleontologist and geologist. He was a professor in Milan.

He died in a landslide in Friuli due to an earthquake together with his nine-year-old son Andrea and the geologist Giulio Pisa (professor in Bologna).

He was an expert on ammonites and stratigraphy of the Triassic (especially the anisium) and on field studies next to the Alps (Carnic Alps) in Iran (stratigraphy and geology of the Elburs Mountains ), Bulgaria, North Africa, North America (Texas) and Turkey. As a sedimentologist, he worked with Wolfgang Schlager in Miami in 1976, also dealing with recent carbonate formation in the sea off Florida.

In 1974 he proposed two new sub-stages of the anisium : Bithynium and Aegeum . These were also accepted internationally.
