Richard Dilo

Richard Dilo ( 1923 - July 14, 1988 ) was a German entrepreneur. He headed the Oskar Dilo Maschinenfabrik KG in Eberbach and gained international importance mainly due to his patents in the field of needle felt technology.

Life

He was the son of the mechanical engineer Oskar Dilo and attended secondary school in his hometown of Eberbach, after which he completed an apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer in his father's company . During the Second World War he was taken prisoner of war , which he spent in Texas and France, among other places, where he continued his education in mechanics and foreign languages. In 1948 he returned to Eberbach and expanded his father's small business into a large, export-oriented company. With a new factory building, he founded the commercial development of the Ittertal at the beginning of the 1960s .

In addition to his company, he also dedicated himself to gliding in the Neckar Valley and was first chairman from 1954 to 1966, then honorary chairman of the Eberbach glider club. From 1971 to 1975 he was also a member of the Eberbach municipal council.

He died in 1988 at the age of 65.

Dilo is considered a pioneer in needle felt technology . He invented the circular needling process RONTEX for seamless and endless filter bags and the BELTEX process for papermaker's felts . With his DI-LOOP , DI-LOFT and DI-LOUR processes , he founded the structured needle-punched nonwovens industry, which is now widely used as floor coverings and for automotive linings . Most recently he owned over 100 national and international patents.
