Tendering process

The prize has been advertised every two years since 2001 for literary works in German that follow a social and cultural critical approach in the spirit of Johann Gottfried Seume. Travel reports that deal creatively with Seume's travel or life are also taken into account. The selection is made by a jury on the basis of the competition entries submitted in writing. The award ceremony takes place around December 6th of the year in question, as Seume began his walk from Grimma to Syracuse on this day in 1801 .

The prize money of 3,000 euros is donated by the Sparkasse Muldental.
