Constanze John

Constanze John (born January 30, 1959 in Leipzig ) is a German author who is best known for her literary travel reports and her work with children and young people.

Life

Growing up in Leipzig, she studied German literature , history and education at the local university . From 1981 to 1988 she lived in Rostock and from 1984 to 1987 completed a distance learning course at the Leipzig Institute for Literature . From 1988 to 2001 she lived in Zwickau , initially worked in various professions and has been a freelance writer since 1998 . In 2001 she moved back to Leipzig. Constanze John has two sons.

Act

Her first publication in the literary magazine Temperamente took place in 1987 with a poem about Georg Büchner , to whom she always felt connected in her later work. In her volume of stories, Fernwärme , the focus was on human relationships. She also recounted local legends from Zwickau and the surrounding area, which were published in two books. So far, the emergence of three opera librettos and for the radio numerous features , stories for children and radio plays . Several trips abroad, including to Armenia , Georgia and Brazil , were and are formative for her current work. Working with children and young people, whom she is always close to in readings and literary workshops, is particularly important to her . From 1993 to 2012 she worked in this sense, especially in Zwickau, and has been working at the youth literature workshop in Graz since 2005, especially during the annual writing time in the municipality of Alberndorf in Upper Austria. She was also the editor of several books with stories by and for children. Constanze John has been running the writing workshop for children at the Haus des Buches in Leipzig since 2012.

As founding chairman, she got the Friedrich-Bödecker-Kreis in the Free State of Saxony back on track from 2008 to 2009 .

In addition to travel reports for Deutschlandfunk and Deutschlandradio, DuMont Reiseverlag published two books on Armenia and Georgia. In 2013 Constanze John received the Johann Gottfried Seume Literature Prize for her previously unpublished manuscript "Gelber Staub. A Journey to Armenia" .
