Andreas Altmann (born October 3, 1949 in Altötting ) is a German reporter and author .

Life

Altmann grew up in the Bavarian pilgrimage town of Altötting as the son of a rosary dealer who was a member of the SA and SS during the Nazi era. He dealt with his childhood and youth in the book The Shit Life of My Father, the Shit Life of My Mother and My Own Shit Youth, published in 2011 , which is also available as a play. a. at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin . After graduating from high school, he hitchhiked through Europe and worked according to his own statements. a. As a dishwasher, private chauffeur, investment advisor, road construction worker, book club representative, night porter, dressman, mail sorter, park attendant and factory worker. After a long stay in an Indian ashram and an eight-month stay in a Japanese Zen monastery in Kyoto , he returned to Germany.

Altmann first began studying law and shortly afterwards switched to psychology , but dropped out of both courses without a degree. He then studied acting at the Mozarteum in Salzburg from 1971 to 1974 . He then worked at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich and then until 1979 at the Schauspielhaus in Vienna . After studying at New York University , he finally moved to Mexico City .

He started writing in the late 1980s. First he wrote travel reports for publications such as Geo , Stern , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Die Zeit , the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Playboy , Focus , Hustler and other international magazines. Since 1996 Altmann has mainly written books, meanwhile nineteen titles, including six bestsellers. Altmann's books have been translated into several languages. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation .

Altmann has lived in Paris since 1992 .
