Susanne Schädlich
Susanne Schädlich (born November 29, 1965 in Jena ) is a German writer and literary translator .
Live and act
Susanne Schädlich was born in Jena in 1965, but grew up predominantly in the Märchenviertel in Berlin-Köpenick . Her father is the writer Hans Joachim Schädlich , her mother the publishing editor Krista Maria Schädlich. She is the granddaughter of the Jena university professor Arno Hübner . In December 1977 she traveled with her parents and younger sister from the GDR to the Federal Republic, first to Hamburg, then to West Berlin. After eleven years in the Federal Republic of Germany, Susanne Schädlich went to the USA, to Los Angeles. After a few years of doing different jobs, she made her first literary translations.
She also worked at the Max Kade Institute for Austrian-German-Swiss Studies . In 1995 she received a scholarship from the University of Southern California . She studied modern German philology. In 1999 she returned to Germany. Since then she has lived in Berlin.
In 2009, Susanne Schädlich published the autobiographical story Immer wieder December. The West, the Stasi, the uncle and me . In it she rolls up the story of her family and that of her trusted uncle Karlheinz Schädlich , who spied on the family for years as an unofficial employee of the "Stasi". In 2014 her novel Mr. Huebner and the Siberian Nightingale was published .
