Richard Norman "Dick" Mize (born December 17, 1935 in Gilman ) is a former American cross-country skier and biathlete .

Dick Mize moved to Western State College , where he was active as a cross-country skier. After college, he went to the US military, where he also did biathlon. He took part in the first ever Olympic biathlon race at the 1960 Olympic Games in Squaw Valley . With a time of one hour and 33: 56.2 minutes and eleven shooting errors, which resulted in 22 penalty minutes, Mize was the second best American runner after John Burritt on the 21st of 30 places. After he was released from the US military, he stayed at his station in Fort Richardson , Alaska . There he taught at East High School , was a ski instructor and organized ski trips through Alaska for 40 years. He himself remained an active cross-country skier for a long time.
