Seventeen Days ( English for " Seventeen Days ") is the third studio album by the US rock band 3 Doors Down . It was released in the US on February 8, 2005, five years to the day after the US release of their 2000 debut album The Better Life .

background

Some of the songs published here have already been released on various recordings by the band. So appeared It's Not Me in 2003 as a live version on the EP Another 700 Miles as well as on the DVD Away from the Sun - Live from Houston , also on the first live performance of Father's Son is found. Behind Those Eyes was the title song of WWE and WrestleMania 21. The name of the album is derived from the time between the end of the Away from the Sun tour and the first recording date in the studio, exactly 17 days. The publication of the work was postponed at short notice in 2004 because of the same tour. The album is the first and last album with Greg Upchurch . He replaced Daniel Adair , who switched to Nickelback .

reception

Seventeen Days topped the Billboard Hot 100 in its first week of sales . Just one month after its release, the album was certified platinum in the USA and gold in Canada. In Germany, the album made it to number six.

Christine Barth from laut.de praises songs such as Never Will I Break , which are very good in themselves , but criticizes that "the twelve pieces quickly become one and the same pulp". Jan Wagner from cdstarts.de criticized that the band had not developed any further. “The step backwards is therefore at a standstill. You almost get the impression that the album was made in the aforementioned Seventeen Days , which is a shame because the band has a lot more musical potential than it shows here. ”However, he also positively highlights Never Will I Break .

Buffo Schnädelbach judged Rock Hard as follows: “With their last album Away from the Sun , the guys from Mississippi didn’t really get out of the quark after the gigantic success of their The Better Life debut ( Kryptonite ). It wasn't until the Here Without You single that the second album picked up speed that the record has sold more than three million copies in the States alone. It is understandable that the hopelessly uncharismatic combo around the flattering voice Brad Arnold relies on the tried and tested recipe of comparatively hard rock numbers and maudlin sounds on the successor. The melancholy semi-ballad and first release Let Me Go , which ignites like a rocket on New Year's Eve after the first run, should be of particular importance . But also the similarly knitted It's Not Me , the D: A: D-like starting shot Right Where I Belong or the heart-pain-smacking Landing in London (featuring rock'n'roll icon Bob Seger), The Real Life and Here by Me are catchy tunes before the Lord, with which 3 Doors Down cleverly balance the fine line between art, commerce and kitsch. For fans of timelessly beautiful, no-frills rock music from Nickelback to Staind to Alter Bridge, the record produced routinely by Johnny K. (Disturbed) is a must. ”He awarded 8.5 out of ten possible points.
