Richard Nový

Richard Nový (born April 3, 1937 in Prague ) is a former Czechoslovak rower who won an Olympic medal in 1964.

Athletic career

The 1.84 m wide Richard Nový took in 1960 in the coxed four at the Olympic Games in Rome in part. Petr Pulkrábek , Oldřich Tikal , Pavel Hoffman , Richard Nový and helmsman Miroslav Koníček won their preliminary run, but missed the finals as sixth of their semi-finals.

Three years later, Nový won the bronze medal with the Czechoslovak eighth at the European Championships in 1963 behind the boats from Germany and the Soviet Union.

At the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Petr Čermák , Jiří Lundák , Jan Mrvík , Július Toček , Josef Věntus , Luděk Pojezný , Bohumil Janoušek , Richard Nový and helmsman Miroslav Koníček rowed in the Czechoslovak eighth place, only Čermák and Toček were not the winners last year European championship medal was there. At the Olympic regatta in Tokyo, the boats from Germany, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union won the preliminary runs, three other boats reached the finals via the hope runs. In the final, the eighth from the United States won five seconds ahead of the German eighth, almost two seconds behind the Czechoslovaks crossed the finish line in third place.
