Richard Palmer Blackmur

Richard Palmer Blackmur (born January 21, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts , † February 2, 1965 in Princeton, New Jersey ) was an American poet and literary critic.

Act

Richard Palmer Blackmur held a chair in English literature at Princeton University from 1951 . His main work consists of essays on English authors. He was one of the most respected critics of his time and was a representative of so-called New Criticism . In addition to his scientific work, he also appeared as a poet and wrote numerous poems.

In 1956 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters and in 1964 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
