Richard Stanton Avery (born January 13, 1907 in Oklahoma , USA , † December 12, 1997 in Pasadena, California ) was an American inventor and entrepreneur .

Unimpressed by the global economic problems, Richard Stanton Avery developed the first self-adhesive price label in 1935 , thus laying the foundation for a new branch of industry. The Avery Dennison Corporation he founded is one of the world's leading manufacturers in this field. Avery died of a stroke in Pasadena, California, at the age of 90.
