Richardis of Merode

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richardis von Merode was abbess in the Nottuln Abbey and Metelen Abbey .

Life

Origin and family

Richardis von Merode came from the old noble family von Merode . There is no reliable data about her parents. She was probably a daughter of Rikalt I von Merode and Frenz and Margarete von Wezemaal.

Career and work

After the death of Abbess Lisa von Solms in 1409, the convent initially postponed the choice of a successor in order to be able to use the income of the Nottuln monastery to deal with emergencies. Feuds, famines and the plague epidemic after 1350 had put an end to prosperity. So the Convention's decision was imperative.

Richardis can be traced back to the documents as abbess from 1428 to 1431. She resigned her office and went to the Metelen Monastery, where she was abbess from 1433 to 1441.

After a few years of vacancy, Bishop Heinrich von Moers appointed Agnes von Ahaus as her successor in Nottuln.
