history
Richerode was first mentioned in 1193 as Rucherod . Around 1600 it was described as desolate , in 1687 the estate is said to have been rebuilt. In 1747 it was owned by Prince Maximilian von Hessen-Kassel , who resided at Jesberg Castle in neighboring Jesberg. He set up a Swiss factory in Richerode . A few years after Maximilian's death in 1768, Richerode became the state domain of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel . After several changes of ownership, the estate was finally acquired by the Hephata institutes in 1918.
