Maximilian von Hessen-Kassel (born May 28, 1689 in Marburg , † May 8, 1753 in Kassel ) was a prince of Hessen-Kassel and imperial field marshal . He came from the German Princely House of Hesse .

Life

Maximilian was the ninth son of Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel (1654–1730) from his marriage to Marie Amalia (1653–1711), daughter of Duke Jakob Kettler von Kurland. His father bought him the Betzigerode estate in 1713 . After the Hessian line of the Lords of Linsingen had died out in 1721 with Ludwig Eitel in the male line and their rule of Jesberg had thus fallen back to the Landgrave , Maximilian received the rule of Jesberg from his father in 1723, including the Richerode estate and the nearby village of Hundshausen. He then sold the Betzigerode estate in the same year to the widow of the former landgrave chancellor Nikolaus Wilhelm Goddaeus (1646–1719), Amalie Elisabeth née. d'Orville (1676-1752). With the proceeds he had a small baroque palace built in Treisbachgrund in Jesberg and the " Prinzessingarten " laid out for his four daughters, who had survived their infancy, southeast of Jesberg in what is now Jesberg State Forest . He was a passionate musician, had his own court orchestra, and for this he threw himself into debt.

His marriage, concluded in 1720, to Friederike Charlotte von Hessen-Darmstadt (1698–1777), a daughter of Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt , was supposed to symbolize the restored harmony between Hessen-Kassel and Hessen-Darmstadt, which, however, was shared by both families Annoyance at the lavish lifestyle of "Princess Max" was made difficult.
