The Prinzessingarten , also known as the Prinzessgarten or Prinzessinnengarten , near Jesberg in Northern Hesse is a baroque pleasure garden that was laid out in the 18th century and only remnants of it are preserved today. It is located in the Jesberg state forest in a larger piece of forest about 2 km southeast of Jesberg Castle on long-distance hiking trail X 16, the Lullus path .

history

At the beginning of the 18th century, the ninth son of Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel , Prince Maximilian von Hessen-Kassel (1689–1753), moved to Jesberg. In 1723 he had received goods in Jesberg and the rule of Jesberg from his father and began to build Jesberg Castle there. A magnificent baroque French symmetrical garden belonged to the castle. Between 1723 and 1753, the Prinzessgarten, located southeast of Jesberg, was built in what is now the Jesberg State Forest. This garden was created at the request of Maximilian's four daughters Friederike (1722–1787), Charlotte (1725–1782), Wilhelmine (1726–1808) and Karoline (1732–1759) and is therefore still called the “Princess Garden ” today.
