from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friederike Charlotte von Hessen-Darmstadt (born September 8, 1698 in Darmstadt , † March 22, 1777 in Darmstadt) was a princess of Hessen-Darmstadt and by marriage Princess of Hessen-Kassel .

Life

Friederike Charlotte was a daughter of Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt (1667–1739) from his marriage to Dorothea Charlotte (1661–1705), daughter of Margrave Albrecht von Brandenburg-Ansbach . She got engaged to Maximilian von Hessen-Kassel (1689-1753) on October 6, 1720 , whom she married on November 28, 1720 in Darmstadt.

Friederike Charlotte did not feel very at home either at the Kassel court or in her husband's small lordship of Jesberg , and she often stayed for months in the Darmstadt residence near her father, Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt, either alone or with her children on. The family viewed the long absences from her husband very critically. Her exalted, permissive lifestyle and lavish lifestyle also caused criticism and incomprehension.

After the death of her husband Maximilian, Friederike Charlotte finally returned to Darmstadt in 1755, where she died on March 22, 1777 and was buried in the "Fürstengruft" of the Darmstadt city church built in 1687 (under the south aisle). The crypt is no longer open to the public today.
