Nikolaus Wilhelm Goddaeus (also Goddäus ; born March 21, 1646 in Marburg , † April 2, 1719 in Kassel ) was a Landgrave Hessian lawyer, administrative officer and Chancellor of the Landgrave's government.

origin

Nicholas William was the son of the Landgrave Governing John Goddaeus (1601-1657) and his wife Catharina Sixtinus († 1698), a daughter of the Privy Council and later Rentkammer president Nicolaus Sixtinus (1585-1669). His paternal grandfather was the professor of law and former rector of the Philipps University in Marburg , Johannes Goddaeus (1555-1632). Maternal grandfather was the lawyer, professor and Secret Councilor Regner Sixtinus (1543–1617).

Life

Nikolaus Wilhelm Goddaeus studied law in Marburg from 1660 and after completing his studies undertook an extensive educational trip to Holland , France , Switzerland and Vienna . Then he entered the landgrave's service. As early as 1677 he was a Hessian-Kassel councilor. In 1680 he was a chancellery in Hersfeld , but shortly afterwards was transferred to Vienna as a legation counselor. In 1682 he was a councilor and head of the Hessen-Kassel comitial embassy at the Perpetual Reichstag in Regensburg , at times also comitial envoy for Hessen-Darmstadt . In 1689 he was appointed to the Real Secret Council . From 1695 until his death in 1719 he was Chancellor and Minister of State and carried out the foreign correspondence of the Landgrave's government.

Marriages and offspring

He was married three times: in his first marriage in 1678 with Elisabeth Badenhausen (1656–1681), daughter of the Hessen-Kassel Chancellor and Comitial Envoy Regner Badenhausen (1610–1686), the couple had a daughter:

In his second marriage in 1685 he married Margarethe Motz († 1705), a daughter of the colonel , war council and Kassel city commander Johann Christian Motz (1604-1683). The couple had the following children:

Finally, on June 30, 1707, he married Amalie Elisabeth d'Orville, c. Rumpel (1676–1752), daughter of the council and comitial envoy Johann Joachim d'Orville († 1706), with whom he had the following children:
