The directive on cable cars for passenger traffic and the cable car directive of March 20, 2000 regulates the requirements for bringing elevator systems into circulation for passenger traffic within the European Economic Area . It also applies to inclined elevators for passenger traffic outside of buildings. The directive introduced specific requirements that take into account the same safety objectives for all plants.

Cable cars are primarily transport systems that are used in tourist resorts and in mountain regions. It is funiculars , cableways , gondolas , chairlifts and drag lifts. However, they can also be cable cars that are used in urban transport systems.

tasks

The Member States are responsible for the safety supervision of cable cars during construction, commissioning and operation. Together with the responsible authorities, they are also responsible for land rights, spatial planning and environmental protection . Cable cars have to be safe. Therefore, the basic requirements for the protection of safety and health must be observed. The requirements must be applied responsibly in order to take into account the state of the art at the time of manufacture as well as technical and economic requirements.
