Rick Halperin (born July 2, 1950 ) is one of the most famous American human rights activists. He teaches human rights at Southern Methodist University and is the director of the human rights program there.

He completed his studies in American history and philosophy in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts from George Washington University in Washington, DC, in the same subject he made his Master of Arts in 1974 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and received his doctorate in 1978 from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama . Since 1985 he has taught at Southern Methodist University.

Human rights activist

Halperin was a member of the board of the American section of Amnesty International from 1989 to 1995 and has been again since 2004. He was board spokesman from 1992 to 1993 and from 2005 to 2007. The main focus of his work is the fight against the death penalty .
