Rick Steves (born May 10, 1955 in Edmonds , Washington , United States ) is an American author , entrepreneur and political activist. He is the author of numerous travel guides to European destinations. The name "Rick Steves" is a registered trademark .

Career

Steves started out as a small business owner in the 1970s . He organized guided trips to various European destinations, mostly working as a driver and guide himself . Based on his experience, he self- published his first travel guide Europe through the Back Door in 1980 and opened a travel agency called Rick Steves' Europe, Inc. in Edmonds. From the 1990s he produced television broadcasts to its destinations, the state in US television were broadcast and. Steves achieved America-wide fame.

To this day, Steves' travel agency has grown into a nationwide provider of European trips, travel guides and travel accessories such as suitcases and backpacks . The travel guide to Italy , co-authored by Steve, is the U.S. top selling travel guide to a destination outside the U.S.

Political activities

Steves supports the clearance of marijuana in the US and advocates an abortion right . In his book Travel as a Political Act , Steves urges his compatriots to expand what he believes are often US-focused worldviews through travel.
