Rick Trevino
Rick Trevino (* 16th May 1971 as Ricardo Trevino Jr. in Austin , Texas ) is an American country singer of Mexican descent.
Beginnings
Rick initially received an education in classical music from his parents, who were both active musicians. Among other things, he learned to play the piano and clarinet. He picked up a variety of influences but then settled on country music . A talented baseball player, he won a Memphis State University scholarship, which he declined. Instead, he signed a 1991 record deal with the Columbia label.
Career
His first album, Dos Mundos , was released in Spanish in 1993. His first single was released in both an English version ( Just Enough Rope ) and a Spanish version ( Bastante Cordon ). His second album, Rick Trevino , was also released in two different versions. Both were awarded gold (the Spanish one in Spain). In 1994 he had two top 10 hits with She Can't Say I Didn't Cry and Doctor Time . He had his first and only number 1 hit in 1997 with Running Out Of Reason . His music was less based on Mexican models than on contemporary country music. He always wore a cowboy hat to appearances and photo ops.
In 1998 he founded the group Los Super Seven with several other musicians of Latin American descent, including Freddy Fender , Flaco Jimenez and Joe Ely . The album of the same name was awarded a Grammy a year later as the best American-Mexican album . A little later Trevino surprisingly lost his record deal. A long dry spell began, during which he was forced to paddle through clubs and dance halls. It was only in 2003 that he was able to hide at the Warner Brothers label. In the same year the album In My Dreams was released .
