Düren sewage fields
The Rieselfelder Düren were on the edge of the Düren district of Birkesdorf .
The wastewater treatment plant was located west of Birkesdorf behind the motorway maintenance facility . The sewage fields were laid out in 1913. The job title of one of the employees was interesting: he called himself “Rain Master”. His job was to irrigate the fields with water when there was a strong stench and drought.
On June 18, 1941, three high explosive bombs fell on the facility during the twelfth air raid on Düren.
After the construction of the sewage treatment plant on the northern side of the federal highway 4 , the sewage fields became inoperable at the end of the 1960s / beginning of the 1970s.
