The Riesener-Gymnasium is the second oldest high school in Gladbeck after the Ratsgymnasium .

history

On April 17, 1907, a private secondary girls' school was opened in Gladbeck . The main reason for the establishment of the school was the great distance to other comparable girls' schools of the time. A short time later, in 1911, it was converted to a public school. The Riesener-Gymnasium gradually developed into the Gymnasium as we know it today. In 1914 the school was expanded into a lyceum , until it was officially converted into a German secondary school on March 23, 1929 . The school was renamed the Richard Wagner School on January 20, 1939 . High school for girls, linguistic form .

The Second World War had a significant impact on everyday school life. A large part of the students as well as the teachers were obliged to go to war, which made regular teaching almost impossible. On March 24, 1945, the building was finally completely destroyed by a bomb attack .

After the end of the war, the school was initially called the secondary school for girls . On March 21, 1956, the company moved into the current building. In 1973, co-education was introduced at the school , which in turn resulted in a name change: the grammar school was given its current name after the furniture maker Johann Heinrich Riesener from Gladbeck .

From 1997, the grammar school was expanded to include a semicircular upper school building and a new sports hall, in which international extracurricular competitions also take place.

School activities

Since 2000 there has been a school concept in the form of a school program at the Riesener-Gymnasium, which has been regularly revised and expanded since then. In addition to six sports work groups , such as B. handball , girls' football , climbing , table tennis and group helper training , the Riesener-Gymnasium also offers the choir , Cambridge Certificate , physics , chess and Italian groups. There is also the option of acquiring the internationally recognized DELF diploma . At the invitation of the school, the writer Christoph Hein held a reading followed by a panel discussion in 2007 .
