Riester (shoemaker's trade)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Riester is a term used by the shoemaker and describes a patch made of leather with which a damaged area on the upper leather (shaft leather) is removed or covered during boot repair.

The piece of leather is selected from remnants of shoe manufacture to match the surrounding leather and is usually cut round or curved to match the boot . The Riester is attached either with a thread seam by manual or machine sewing (technically: stitching ) or (much more often) by gluing. If possible, the Riester should not catch the eye, not throw wrinkles and otherwise hardly make himself noticeable.
