Rifaat oath

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rifaat Ali Eid ( Arabic رفعت علي عيد, * in Tripoli ) is the chairman of the Lebanese Arab Democratic Party , which has its strongholds among the Alawites and is based in Tripoli (Jabal Mohsen). He took over the office from his father Ali Eid .

In 2008, he led his party through the fighting in Bab el-Tabbaneh - Jebel Mohsen and provided financial support to residents of Jebel Mohsen because they could not go to work because of the conflict. In this conflict, when Sunnis and Shiites were fighting in Lebanon, Rifaat said in an interview: "We are the most suitable targets, the double for Hezbollah , our problem can only be solved if Shiites and Sunnis solve theirs." He stated that Alawis in Tripoli had no problems with Sunnis, but knew how to defend themselves if they were attacked. He said, "The Salafis are like kittens when they are weak, but when they are powerful they become tigers."

During the Syrian Civil War from 2011 onwards, he accused the pro-Western groups in Lebanon, such as the Future Movement , of funding and equipping the Islamists in Tripoli. He believes the Alawis in Lebanon are being attacked in return for the events in Syria and that the Syrian army could protect the Lebanese Alawis from the attacks of the Islamists as the Lebanese army is ineffective against them.
