The Rifugio Franco Monzino (often just Rifugio Monzino ) is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Graian Alps within the Mont Blanc group . It is located at an altitude of 2580  m in the Val Veny side valley within the municipality of Courmayeur near the Aiguille du Châtelet and the Ghiacciaio del Brouillard glacier. The hut is managed from mid-June to mid-September and offers 55 mountaineers sleeping places during this time.

history

The Rifugio Franco Monzoni was built in 1965 just below the old hut Capanna Gamba. It is dedicated to the Milanese mountaineer Franco Monzino, who did a great job building the hut.

rise

The hike starts at the parking lot of the picnic area of La Visaille. First you follow a gravel path towards the Mont-Blanc massif and after about 800 meters take hiking trail number 16. After crossing a larch forest, you climb the moraine of the Frêney glacier. Two rock faces can be overcome using two via ferratas.

The entire route from the parking lot at La Visaille or Frêney to the Rifugio Monzino, which is quite difficult, takes about 2 hours 50 minutes.
