Riitta Maria Uosukainen , Valtioneuvos (born June 18, 1942 in Enso ), b. Vainikka, is a Finnish politician . She belongs to the collection party ( Kokoomus ).

In 1969 Uosukainen completed her studies in philology with a master's degree. From 1969 to 1976 she worked as a Finnish teacher at the Imatrankoski grammar school . From 1983 to 2003 she was a member of the Finnish Parliament and from 1999 to 2003 she was President of the Parliament. In 1991 she was appointed Minister of Education in Esko Aho's government and held that post until 1994. Riitta Uosukainen ran for president in the 2000 elections. Her opponents were Esko Aho, Elisabeth Rehn and Tarja Halonen , who finally won the election. In 2004 she was awarded the highest Finnish honorary title valtioneuvos (Council of State) by President Halonen . She is currently (December 2017) the only living recipient of this award.
