Council of State (Finnish honorary title)
Council of State ( Finnish Valtioneuvos ; Swedish statsråd ) is a Finnish honorary title awarded by the President of the Republic of Finland to statesmen and women. It is the highest title in the Republic of Finland.
Former Prime Ministers Rafael Paasio , Kalevi Sorsa and Paavo Lipponen rejected the award. Lipponen commented that no one outside Finland knows what the State Council is and that the title of former Prime Minister is enough for him.
