The Rimpau Railway was a field railway between Schlanstedt and Neudamm in Saxony-Anhalt . It was single-track and not electrified. Today it is shut down and dismantled. The field railway was used exclusively to transport agricultural products, especially sugar beets.
history
In 1839 Arnold August Wilhelm Rimpau , after whom the field railway is named, founded a sugar factory in Schlanstedt. The Rimpau Railway was built around 1860. In the area of the sugar beet fields between Schlanstedt and Neudamm there were five switches to which a total of 2 meters of mobile track sections could be connected. In operation, the trains were pulled by oxen and horses. The wagons were equipped with double flange wheels so that they did not derail on the heavily soiled tracks.
When the sugar factory closed after 1945, the light railroad was no longer needed and was then shut down. They were completely dismantled except for a level crossing in Schlanstedt.
Route
The Rimpau Railway began in Neudamm. It then continued south and opened up the sugar beet fields with mobile branches leading further west. Eventually the Feldbahn reached Schlanstedt and ended at the sugar factory after crossing the Strube Railway .
