Rinat Ibragimow (musician)

Rinat Ibragimow (* 1960 in Moscow ) is a Russian double bass player , conductor and music teacher .

Ibragimow first received cello lessons before switching to the double bass. He studied at the Ippolitov-Ivanov Music Institute in Moscow with Georgy Favorsky and at the Moscow Conservatory with Evgeny Kolosov, where he also completed conducting studies with Dimitri Kitaenko and Igor Dronov. He was the first prize winner at the All Soviet Union double bass competition (1984) and at the Giovanni Bottesini competition ( Concorso Bottesini ) in Parma (1989). From 1983 he was solo bassist in the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater and with the soloists of the Moscow Philharmonic until he joined the London Symphony Orchestra as solo bassist in 1995 . As a conductor, he took over the artistic direction of the Moscow Instrumental Capella from 1995 to 1998 and subsequently worked regularly with this ensemble.

Ibragimow taught at the Moscow Conservatory from 1991 to 1997 and as a professor at the Guildhall Scholl of Music since 1999 and at the Royal College of Music since 2007 . He has published numerous recordings.

In 2014 Ibragimov suffered a stroke , which made appearances impossible. Ibragimow has taught part-time since then and was awarded the title of Principal Emeritus with the London Symphony Orchestra .

His daughter is the violinist Alina Ibragimova .
