The Ringbahn , also known as the " Schleifbahn ", was a 2.5 km long railway line in Mannheim . It existed from 1854 to 1879 and connected the Mannheim harbor station with the Mannheim – Heidelberg railway line and the former marshalling yard in the area of today's main station . It ran along the eastern edge of the city center (today: Kaiserring, Friedrichsring) and then from the Chain Bridge on the Neckar to the Neckarhafen in the Jungbusch area .

In 1877 the connecting line between the main train station and the new central freight station in Mühlauhafen was put into operation. The station at Neckarhafen was connected to the new line in an arch from the west and the then dispensable circular line was given up in 1879.
