sQuba vehicle at Tuning World Bodensee

The Rinspeed sQuba is a concept vehicle from the Swiss creative company Rinspeed and was manufactured by Esoro .

The Swiss developer Frank Rinderknecht presented this study at the Geneva Motor Show 2008. The vehicle drives like a normal two-seater over land, but can easily dive into the water. There it moves with a drive equipped with two propellers and two jet streams next to the doors. The waterproof, but open body (convertible) prevents water from penetrating the various assemblies. The inmates are supplied with oxygen from compressed air cylinders via ventilators, which is sufficient for about 2 hours. The total time the vehicle remains under water is max. five hours. The maximum underwater speed is three km / h, on land 120 km / h. Propulsion is determined with two pedals and the maximum diving depth is ten meters.

Frank Rinderknecht:

For three decades I have been imagining how it could be possible to build a functioning car for underwater flight. Now we have made the dream a reality. "

Technical equipment

The vehicle is based on the Lotus Elise . The body was completely sealed and covered with styrofoam , so that the static buoyancy is sufficient for swimming. This means that the car floats by itself on the surface of the water without occupants. The vehicle has three electric motors and is emission-free. The 3.6 kW strong nozzles ensure diving under water. Two propellers at the stern provide propulsion. It is steered by the different propulsion of both propellers. The electronics are kept dry by compressed air. On the road, the mobile drives with the 160 Nm of an electric motor. The power supply is provided by lithium-ion batteries .

The body surface was aerodynamically equipped with 3D film material with shark skin embossing. It is salt water, i.e. H. seawater resistant and is therefore suitable for use in the sea. The chassis for land transport is a stainless coilover kit from KW automotive , which was fitted with wide tires from Pirelli .

The following companies were involved in the concept study: AEZ, Carl F. Bucherer , Foliatec.com, Konrad Hornschuch AG , HS Genion GmbH, KGS Diamond Group, KW automotive GmbH, LeasePlan (Schweiz) AG, etc. a.
