Carl F. Bucherer is a Swiss company of fine watchmaking , based in Lucerne , the mechanical men's and women's watches manufactures in the luxury segment. The company has been wholly owned by the Bucherer family since it was founded in 1888 . This makes Carl F. Bucherer one of the oldest Swiss manufacturers of luxury watches in the permanent possession of the founding family. The company is run in the third generation by Jörg G. Bucherer as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The watch models from Carl F. Bucherer are characterized by their additional functions, for example chronograph , flyback, tachymeter or tourbillon and displays such as big date and weekday, power reserve, 24 hours, moon phases, three time zones as well as calendar and perpetual calendar .

history

Carl Friedrich Bucherer, founder of the Swiss watch manufacturer.

In 1888 Carl Friedrich Bucherer opened his first specialist shop for watches and jewelry in Lucerne, Switzerland. In 1919 Carl Friedrich Bucherer offered his first women's watch collection in the Art Deco style . As one of the first watchmakers, he used a watch strap, which was revolutionary at the time. Until 1948, the company focused on sporty chronographs that were equipped with a big date.

Carl Friedrich Bucherer's first store in Lucerne, Switzerland

By 1968 Carl F. Bucherer had produced around 15,000 high-precision, certified chronometers . The company was thus one of the three leading Swiss chronometer manufacturers. In 1969 the company participated in the Swiss consortium for the development and production of the first Swiss quartz movement for wristwatches, the Beta 21.

In 1976, Jörg G. Bucherer, the third generation of the family, took over the company. In 2001 the Carl F. Bucherer brand was repositioned and the Patravi watch collection launched. In 2005, the company registered a patent for the monopusher mechanism from Patravi TravelTec, which enabled the parallel display of three time zones.

In 2007, Carl F. Bucherer acquired Téchniques Horlogères Appliquées (THA) in Sainte-Croix , Switzerland, which was integrated into the company as Carl F. Bucherer Technologies . From then on, the manufacturer had a factory for research and development as well as for the production of its own manufacture movement and modules for additional functions. In the following year, the company presented the manufacture movement CFB A1000 with a peripherally mounted flywheel. In terms of product authenticity and quality, the Manero Power Reserve was the first watch model from Carl F. Bucherer to receive a unique laser signature in 2014 . From then on, all models of the watch brand were equipped with this technology.

production

In order to increase production capacity, Carl F. Bucherer relocated its production facilities from Nidau to the larger location in Lengnau , Bern, in 2002 . In 2015, Carl F. Bucherer announced that production in the new plant in Lengnau would be merged in order to optimize production processes and the value chain and increase the vertical range of manufacture.

The company sells around 25,000 watches per year (as of 2015).

Manufactory movement

The manufacture caliber CFB A2000

The CFB A1000 caliber has the first peripherally mounted rotor that works reliably. The rotor is made of tungsten . The peripheral rotor provides energy by rotating on both sides and at the same time allows a view of the movement. The A1000 movement is equipped with the patented DAS shock protection ("Dynamic Shock Absorption") for efficient shock absorption.

The Manero Peripheral based on the new CFB A2000 caliber family was launched at BaselWorld 2016.

Carl F. Bucherer launched the CFB A2000 manufacture movement at BaselWorld 2016 . The CFB A2000 retained the winding mechanism of the signature caliber CFB A1000 and now oscillates at four Hertz, "for high rate stability and for a new type of free jumping mass that increases the resistance to shock-induced fluctuations in time". The A2000 is COSC Swiss Chronometer certified to confirm its performance at the highest level.

For the Manero Peripheral , which was also introduced at BaselWorld 2016, the CFB A2050 caliber was developed based on the CFB A200 0 . It was the first watch with the CFB A2000 caliber family .

The Manero Flyback model contains the CFB 1970 caliber , "which is controlled by a ratchet wheel and also has a flyback function which enables several time intervals to be measured in short sequences."

Authentication

Since 2014, the company's movements have been protected against counterfeiting using a special laser technology . In the CLR- LIGA process developed by the Swiss company Mimotec SA, a unique signature is applied to the movement surface through diffractive nanostructuring, which can only be authenticated using a special laser scan device.

The Carl F. Bucherer watches are divided into five main collections:

  • Patravi: Filigree distinctive mechanical watches
  • Manero: Elegant, complicated and timeless watches
