The Ristafallet waterfall is located in the west of the Swedish province of Jämtland on Åreälven . It is not far from the European route E 14 , about 17 km from Åre at 355  m above sea level.

A wooded island divides the fall into a northern and a southern section. The whole area gives the impression of a huge amphitheater . The entire fall is 50 m wide, 14 m high and the flow rate is 100 to 400 m 3 / s , depending on the season . The humid environment of the waterfall has created a special nature with special lichens, grasses and animals that has been given protection status by the Swedish state.

Sport fishing for trout and grayling is very popular upstream and downstream . There is also a campsite right afterwards. In the vicinity of the fall is the so-called Olavsquelle. This got its name from Christian pilgrims who are said to have quenched their thirst at the source on their way to Trondheim to the grave of Olav Haraldsson .

Parts of the film Ronja the Robber's Daughter , based on the book of the same name by Astrid Lindgren , were recorded here.
