Rita Montaner (born August 20, 1900 in Havana ; † April 17, 1958 ) was a Cuban singer and actress who went down in Cuban music history as "La Única" ( The Unique ), and internationally in her mixture of African and Spanish Influences as the representative of the "Cuban" was considered.

Life

Rita Montaner completed her music studies ( piano , singing and harmony ) in 1917. In Cuba's first radio broadcast on October 10, 1922, her voice was the first of a woman on Cuban radio. She achieved international recognition in 1928 with her appearance at the Olympia in Paris . In 1956 she contracted throat cancer and on May 31, 1957 she made her last public appearance.

Thanks to Rita Montaner, many of Ernesto Lecuona's songs became successful hits. Bola de Nieve became famous as a pianist for Rita Montaner and then as a soloist. One of the most famous songs by Rita Montaner is probably El Manisero ( The Peanut Seller ). In the Spanish-speaking world, she is one of the most famous film actresses of the 1940s and 1950s .
