The Knights staircase is in a rocks at Devil's Wall at Timmenrode in the district of Harz , Saxony-Anhalt beaten stairs .

It is also known as the stone staircase and is located on the northern outer wall of the Teufelsloch cave near the Hamburg coat of arms . The knight's staircase consists of individual steps carved into the rock. The ascent of thirteen steps begins near the foot of the rock. The stairs there reach a large rock window of the devil's hole. Shifted a little to the west, the knight's staircase then leads at the edge of the window over another 28 steps up to the top of the rock. There are various rock carvings to the side of the stairs. Noteworthy is an older incision of a cross to the right of the lower part of the stairs. The motive for the attachment is unclear.

The reason for the construction of the stairs is also unknown. There is speculation about a small castle complex on the rock, in connection with which such a staircase could be.

The unsecured ascent is considered dangerous. In the literature, the use of a safety rope is recommended for an ascent .
