River Quest is a Rapid River ride from the manufacturer Hafema in Phantasialand in Brühl . The course was opened on July 26th, 2002 and together with Mystery Castle and Klugheim forms the theme area Mystery .
Due to the limited space available, which was taken up by the two roller coasters Mountain Railway and Grand Canyon Railway until the fire on May 1, 2001 , the route, unlike other Rapids Rides, is on several floors.
Trip description
After the station, in which the round boats designed in the bat wing design run on a conveyor belt, a spacious 180-degree left curve is driven through. Until the end of the 2013 season, visitors to the park had the opportunity to fire a few water fountains outside the attraction at the occupants of the boats. Then the boats, each with space for nine people, reach two vertical elevators, from which they are transported to a height of 22 meters. This is immediately followed by the highest of the three runs at eleven meters. This is followed by a so-called whirlpool , in which the boats, like in a vortex, drive through an inwardly narrowing 540-degree route and then descend the second, seven-meter-high descent. After another 180 degree right turn, the boats descend the last three meter high descent. This is designed to be foldable. It was originally planned to first let the boats drive in a horizontal position on this rocker , and then suddenly fold them down. This function has not yet been used in public transport operations as the forces acting on the passengers would require additional safety devices such as brackets or belts. After the boats have reached the level of the station again, they go through a few curves until the end of the journey.
Due to the forces involved in the high descents, a minimum size of 1.40 meters, which is unusually high for water rides of this type, has been specified for passengers.
Theming
The building of the attraction is largely themed in the style of a medieval castle , but the facades facing the western town of Silver City (which was demolished) and the Chinese area China Town have been adapted to the respective subject areas so that the train fits better into the overall picture. Initially there was a game called ghost shooting in the waiting area, but it was quickly removed. In 2015/2016, the lift tower was redesigned, following on from the new “Klugheim” themed area. In particular, the route of the new Raik attraction leads partially through River Quest.
