Rob Hume

Robert "Rob" Arthur Hume (born June 15, 1950 in Burntwood , Lichfield , Staffordshire ) is a British ornithologist and author who worked for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) for a long time .

Life

In 1971 Hume graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wales at Swansea in geography . From 1974 to 1975 he worked for the avifaunistic commission of the Gower Ornithological Society. He was also a member of the avifaunistic commission of the West Midland Bird Club and deputy editor of the annual reports of this association during the 1970s. From 1978 to 1983 he was head of the development department at RSPB. From 1983 to 1989 he was editor-in-chief of Bird Life magazine , the press organ of the RSPB's Young Ornithologists' Club (YOC). From 1989 to 2009 he was editor-in-chief of the RSBP magazine Birds . From 1987 to 1997 he was a member of the British Birds Rarities Committee (BBRC); from 1993 to 1997 its chairman. Hume published over 35 books, some of which are also available in German and French translations. In 2005 his autobiography Live with Birds - The Memoirs of a Naturalist was published .
