Robert-Matzke-Strasse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The listed farmhouse Robert-Matzke-Straße 34 from 1803 contrasts with the predominant apartment buildings in closed development.

The Robert-Matzke Street in Dresden district Pieschen is part of an old path that the previous Lindenplatz (the old Pieschener Dorfker today Altpieschen ) to St. Pauli cemetery led. Because of the direction towards the heather , it has been named Haidestrasse since 1886. The western part up to the Großenhainer Straße has had the name Moltkestraße since 1892 in honor of Helmuth Karl Bernhard Graf von Moltke . But in 1897 the route between Riesaer Strasse and Großenhainer Strasse was reassigned to Haidestrasse. Certainly there were also organizational reasons because the road is interrupted by the railroad track to Leipzig . The name Moltkestrasse remained to the west of the railway embankment. In 1899 the street was extended to Leipziger Straße. On July 1, 1948, Moltkestrasse was renamed Robert-Matzke-Strasse. Robert Matzke was an anti-fascist and a KPD member in Pieschen. He died in 1943 in the Dresden police prison .

Several buildings along the street are registered cultural monuments. The farmhouse from 1803, located at no. 34 , is one of the last visible remains of the village of Pieschen, which was laid out as a narrow street, along with some old houses in Altpieschen.
