The Police Headquarters in Dresden was established from 1895 to 1900 as the Royal Saxon Police Headquarters . The architect of the building was Julius Temper . In addition to the Landhaus , the historic conference building of the Saxon state, it is a formative building on Pirnaischer Platz . It was built there as the only building of an executive institution in Saxony on the Old Town side of the Elbe, on which otherwise only buildings of the legislature and judiciary are located. The police had already been in the old town, in the Coselpalais .

The building (along with the State Chancellery ) is one of the state-representative buildings of historicism in Dresden and features elements of the Renaissance and Baroque styles . The two round main towers at the corners also contain a suggested parapet and give the building the character of a fortress. The building has four wings and three courtyards. The main portal on Schießgasse is therefore not the gable of a main wing, but fills the space between the two inner wings.

A modern extension was built at the rear of the building by 1983, which had a stepped facade with bronze-colored windows and was built in an industrial style. It was demolished in 2005. The building site is to be filled by building quarters III / 2 of the Neumarkt development, which will result in a closed built area between Schießgasse and Neumarkt.

The building is the seat of the Dresden Police Department , which includes four police stations in the city of Dresden, three police stations in the Meißen district and three police stations in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district. The Dresden inspections of the Kriminal- and Police Museum Dresden as well as the police station Dresden-Mitte are housed in the building. The state police headquarters, as a department attached to the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior , is located in the government district of Inner Neustadt .
