history
Dresden's government district emerged when new ministries were created after the Congress of Vienna in 1815. The Saxon War Ministry was located in the log house in 1831 , the Ministry of Justice was located in the baroque building at Grosse Meißner Strasse 15; today it is part of the Hotel Bellevue . The baroque building was built in 1693 and housed the royal chancellery from 1734. He was briefly called "the government".
The Ministry of Finance was established between 1890 and 1896 west of the Carolabrücke . To the east of it, the Saxon General Ministry was built. In addition to the government buildings, other buildings were created in the vicinity of the actual government district, which included facilities of the Free State. In 1786 the Electoral Library moved into the Japanese Palace . From 1911 to 1915 the Saxon State Archives were relocated to Neustadt.
The government district had taken on fixed forms at the beginning of the 20th century. During the rule of National Socialism it was called "Reichsgau Saxony". During the GDR era, the district council was located in the building of the overall ministry ; the new Ministry of Finance moved into the district authority of the German People's Police . The headquarters of the Soviet armed forces for the Dresden area moved into the premises of the former district court in Hospitalstrasse. After the fall of the Wall in 1990, the general and finance ministries were returned to their original uses. The Saxon State Parliament was constituted in the nearby Dreikönigskirche and stayed there until 1994.
The Ministry of Justice was located in the former Soviet headquarters; In addition to the Blue House, the Ministry of Education moved into a new building in the former college of education on Albertstrasse. A few more new buildings have since been completed following a competition and give the government district its present-day appearance.
In 2012 the Blue House on Carolaplatz was demolished.
