Accident on the Elbe
On March 5, 2014, the ship collided with the coaster Wilson Fedje in thick fog on the Elbe . The Jade went down the Elbe, the Wilson Fedje up the Elbe towards the Port of Hamburg . The skipper of the Jade grounded the barge at Teufelsbrück because it was threatened with sinking. For security reasons, an oil barrier was laid around the jade . The jade had about 1,100 tons of soybean meal loaded. The collision caused damage of 800,000 euros on the Jade . In order to be able to salvage the ship safely, the leak was welded to a steel plate and concrete was poured into the ship, which provided the necessary stability, the soy meal was reloaded into a barge . On March 9, 2014 the ship was towed free by the tugs Löwe and Stubbenhuk . The ship is now at the Jöhnk shipyard in Hamburg, which belongs to the BKS Binnenschiffahrtkontor Sommerfeld .
