Karl Adolf Hantzsch (born June 17, 1841 in Dresden ; † May 19, 1920 ibid) was a Saxon teacher and local history researcher whose interest was above all in Dresden's urban history research .

Hantzsch was the son of the basket maker Johann Traugott Hantzsch († 1864) and his wife, who died in 1849. He married Emma Jenke (1842–1889) in 1867. The marriage gave birth to three sons, the geographer and historian Viktor Hantzsch (1868–1910), the building officer Hermann Hantzsch (1870–1905) and the ornithologist and polar explorer Bernhard Hantzsch (1875–1911), and a daughter, Bertha Hantzsch (1873–1905). 1924). After training as a teacher at the Friedrichstädter Seminar in Dresden from 1857 to 1861, Hantzsch worked as an assistant teacher in Niederhermsdorf and from October 1862 as a teacher at the Sixth District School in Dresden. From 1877 to 1894 he was employed at the Second District School in Dresden. In 1894 he became senior teacher and deputy headmaster at the First Dresden Citizens' School; he held these offices until his retirement in 1902.

Act

In 1869 Adolf Hantzsch was a founding member of the Society for the History of Dresden . He was a long-time board member (honorary member in 1919) and published v. a. In the communications of the Society for the History of Dresden, numerous articles on various topics of Dresden city history research. His most extensive works are the name book of the streets and squares of Dresden (1905) and outstanding personalities in Dresden and their apartments (1918).

In addition to historical research and the teaching profession, Hantzsch devoted himself to work in various charitable associations, including the Saxon Pestalozziverein, the apprentice care of the Association for Inner Mission and the Association against Poor Need and Begging.
