Robert B. Israel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Brian Israel is an American mathematical physicist and mathematician.

Israel graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor's degree in 1972 and received her PhD from Princeton University with Barry Simon in 1975 (Tangents to the Pressure as Invariant Equilibrium States in Statistical Mechanics of Lattice Systems). He was an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia .

He deals with mathematical physics (lattice gases, statistical mechanics), optimization and stochastics as well as programming in Maple . In the 1970s he was involved in some fundamental work on the existence of phase transitions in (classical and quantum mechanical) lattice models. He researches optimization algorithms at D-Wave Systems in Burnaby (British Columbia).
