Sir Robert Chichester of Raleigh (around 1578 , † 1627 ) was an English knight.

He came from a line of the Chichester family , an old family of gentry from Devon . He was the eldest son of Sir John Chichester and his wife Anne Dennis , making him a grandson of the politician John Chichester . After his father's early death in 1585, he inherited his estates, which included the Raleigh estate near Barnstaple . On the occasion of the coronation of King James I , he was made Knight of the Bath in 1603 . He held the post of Deputy Lieutenant of Devon and became a colonel in an infantry regiment. Due to a 1566 contract with the Borough Barnstaple, the Chichester family was allowed to nominate one of the two MPs for the borough in general elections . In the 1601 general election, Chichester named Richard Martin , but he did not appear to make use of his right to nominate in later elections.

Chichester had married Frances Harington (1587-1615), a daughter and Coerbin of John Harington, 1st Baron Harington of Exton († 1613) and his wife Ann Kelway . With her he had a daughter:

Chichester's second marriage was Mary Hill († 1632), a daughter of Robert Hill of Shilston . With her he had two sons and a daughter, including:

He was buried in St Mary's Church in Pilton by Barnstaple, where his elaborate wooden funerary monument is located, depicting him, his two wives and his daughter. According to the inscription there, he died in 1627 at the age of 48. His heir became his son John from his second marriage. His widow was second married to Sir Ralph Sydenham .
