Work
Trained goldsmith, Robert Granjon worked as a die cutter in Paris from 1542/43. His first book as a publisher - a pocket edition of the New Testament in Greek and Latin - was published in Paris in 1549. Between 1563 and 1570 he worked closely with the Antwerp printer Christophe Plantin. In 1578 Granjon went to Rome and edited there, among other things. Armenian, Syrian, Arabic and Cyrillic fonts of outstanding quality for mostly church printing houses.
Granjon's beautiful cursive fonts in particular are very popular to this day and are often combined with Claude Garamond's Antiqua fonts. Some of the original stamps and dies have survived to this day and are kept in the Antwerp Plantin-Moretus Museum.
