Robert Köstenberger (* January 15, 1957 in Upper Austria ) is a former Austrian judoka and won in 1982 in Rostock at the European Championships in judo .

biography

Robert Köstenberger won the Junior World Championship in Madrid in 1976 . In the same year he won for the first time at the Austrian light heavyweight championships in the general class. He became a serial winner and was not able to win the championship until 1985. In 1979 he took third place at the European Championships in Brussels. At the 1980 Olympic Games, he was unable to place and started again in 1984. Due to the boycott of the Eastern Bloc, he was considered the hope for a medal of the Austrian Judo Association at the 1984 Games. Due to the two medals from Josef Reiter and Peter Seisenbacher , he was under great pressure and already lost his fight in the preliminary round. In 1986, 1987 and 1989 further victories at the Austrian championships followed.
